MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Lady Roadrunner Emily Poole has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

The freshman from Ringgold, Ga., was chosen for her performance during the week of Sept. 28-Oct. 4. As the conference selection, Poole will be nominated for the NAIA Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week award.

On Oct. 3, Poole recorded an 18:45 5-kilometer time to finish as the runner-up in the Greater Louisville Classic – Silver Race at Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky. Poole finished 6.2 seconds behind event medalist Stephanie Johnston of Concordia (Mich.).

As a team, receiving votes Dalton State placed 11th in the 44-team field with 400 points. Each member of the Roadrunners scoring five finished among the top 114 runners.

NCAA Division I Alabama State captured the team title, led by four of the top 16 runners.

NCAA Division I IPFW (Ind.), Mount Mercy (Iowa), Indiana Wesleyan, NCAA Division III Grove City (Pa.), NCAA Division III Edgewood (Wis.), Taylor (Ind.), NCAA Division I Evansville, Madonna (Mich.) and NCAA Division III Hanover (Ind.) also outpaced the Roadrunners.

Dalton State outran 33 other teams—including conference foe William Carey (Miss.)—at the Greater Louisville Classic.

This is the second career SSAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week nod for Poole, who earned her first on Sept. 22 after winning the North Georgia Invitational.

Dalton State men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete Friday in the NAIA National Preview Meet at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, NC.
