Mocs Soccer Drops 3-0 Match To UNCG

  • Saturday, October 10, 2015
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s soccer team fell 3-0 to UNCG on a rain-soaked Friday night at Finley Stadium. The Mocs are 3-9-2 overall and 1-3-1 against the Southern Conference while the Spartans improve to 5-7-3 on the year and 3-1-1 in league play.

UNCG scored twice in the first half and then grabbed its third goal of the game in the second half. Chattanooga sophomore McKenzie Gregg (Newport, Tenn.) took a shot from nearly 40 yards out and just missed the goal as it banged off the crossbar in the 23rd minute.

The Spartans’ Candace Forbes sent a pass from the right into the box for Caylin Prillaman who recorded the game winning goal in the 32nd minute.
That would be followed up a few minutes later with UNCG’s second goal of the night.

Prillaman got a touch on a free kick from Georgia Brown inside the six-yard box and Melanie Spensiero picked up the ball behind Chattanooga’s keeper and tapped it in to make it 2-0 at the 34:35 mark of the game.

After seven minutes into the second half, the lightning started striking and the rain poured, forcing a delay. The teams retreated to the locker rooms and the fans headed to the concourse to wait it out. An hour and 27 minutes later the teams returned to the field and resumed play.

The Spartans picked up one more goal when Brown got the ball near midfield and made it around the Mocs’ defense and sent a strike to the goal to make it 3-0 in the 66th minute.

UNCG outshot the Mocs 18-10 and the two teams were even on shots on goal. Keeper Chloe Buehler had four saves before being lifted late in the game for Jamie Phelps who made her first appearance of the year for the Spartans.

UTC’s Molli Miller (Maryville, Tenn.), with two saves, made her third straight start in goal and fourth on the year.

Chattanooga will close the home slate Sunday afternoon against VMI in a 2 p.m. tilt. Prior to the match the Mocs will honor its eight seniors on the field. Admission is FREE and live stats and video streaming are available at GoMocs.com.
