Whitwell Man Gets 200-Month Federal Prison Sentence

  • Thursday, September 18, 2014

A Whitwell man, who authorities say has been a long-time drug dealer, has been sentenced to 200 months in federal prison.

Rickey Wayne McCurry appeared before Judge Sandy Mattice.

He has had a number of prior drug convictions, including one in Federal Court, prosecutor Terra Bay said.

Defense attorney Dee Hobbs called the case "small potatoes," saying McCurry only had a small number of regular customers.

He said, "He does not have a hidden stash of cash."

But Ms. Bay said his dealings "affected the entire community. He has sold drugs out of his house for a very long time."

Ray Hardesty, who was arrested along with McCurry, got 41 months.
