July was a "very strong" month at the Chattanooga Airport with both enplanements and deplanements up around 19 percent, Airport President Terry Hart said.
"Travelers are finding Chattanooga to be more affordable and efficient," he said.
He said airport travel activity is up 15 percent for the year thus far.
Delta is up 14 percent, American Eagle 10 percent, and US Air 25 percent.
Mr. Hart said cargo shipments were up 4.5 percent in July.
He said the Airport is seeking an FAA grant under the small cities air service program. He said the focus would be on a New York City connection.
Mr. Hart said the Tailwind concession firm is generating up to $140,000 a month, whereas Air Host was at $60,000 to $70,000 a month.
He said the new concession firm, which reaches out to local vendors and food suppliers, is on track to top $1.4 million for the year.
The Airport is expanding its rental car area from 94 to 178 spaces using funds from a $2 charge on Airport rentals.
Dillard Construction of Dayton had the only bid at $1,137,400.
It is expected to be completed by March.
Mr. Hart said the rental car area at the Airport "has not been a pleasant experience for our visitors for years."
Thomas Construction Company got the bid for a westside ramp extension. Its low bid among four bidders was $2,461,787.
The project will be funded 90 percent federal, five percent state and five percent Airport.
