Chattanooga Tea Party To Highlight Tennessee's Constitutional Amendments

  • Tuesday, September 16, 2014

The Chattanooga Tea Party will be highlighting the Tennessee constitutional amendments that will be on the November ballot at its meeting this Thursday, at 6:30 p.m.

Mr. Justin Owen, president and CEO of the Beacon Center in Nashville, will be discussing Amendment 2 which seeks to change the way in which Tennessee’s statewide appellate judges are selected by empowering the governor to appoint judges subject to confirmation by the general assembly.

In addition to a discussion about Amendment 2, the Chattanooga Tea Party will be highlighting Amendments 1, 3 and 4 to the TN Constitution.  Amendment 1 is a pro-life constitutional amendment which empowers the legislature to enact, amend or repeal statutes regarding abortion. Amendment 3 prohibits the legislature from levying any tax upon payroll or earned personal income.  And Amendment 4 deals with gambling and empowers the legislature to permit lotteries for events that benefit not for profit organizations.

The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. at The Century Club Banquet Hall, 3221 Harrison Pike (off Access Road, just south of the Highway 153-Amnicola Highway intersection, next to The Lighting Gallery)

Participants are reminded to bring a non-perishable canned good item as the Chattanooga Tea Party is committed to supporting the Chattanooga Area Food Bank.

Please RSVP at Chattanooga Tea Party’s Facebook page (link at ChattanoogaTeaParty.com). Donations will be accepted at the event to help defray costs.
