The Chattanooga Cruise In will be held Saturday

The Chattanooga Cruise In was created to encourage car and truck enthusiasts to gather in the Scenic City, and it has grown since its inception in September of 2011.  The Chattanooga Cruise In will be Saturday, attracting hundreds of collector vehicles to the area.

The event is a laid-back car show, hosted by local businesses, Coker Tire Company and Honest Charley Speed Shop, and car enthusiasts will come and go as they please throughout the day.

The Chattanooga Cruise In is held on the streets surrounding the Coker Tire headquarters, and will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., allowing cars, trucks and motorcycles to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. Coker Tire and all of its companies will hold an open house, encouraging participants to tour the facilities and check out everything the companies have to offer. The open house includes tours of Corky Coker’s museum, and Honest Charley Garage, a classic car restoration shop.

Most of the streets surrounding Coker Tire will be blocked off to provide adequate space for the cruise in participants, and the entrance to the cruise in will be at the intersection of Main and Chestnut Streets. Coker Tire has invited several car clubs, as well as other local car-related businesses to join in on the fun.  The most recent Chattanooga Cruise In (April) featured more than 1,000 vehicles and approximately 10,000 people throughout the course of the day. Event T-shirts are available for $10, and supplies are limited.

Chattanooga Cruise In is a rain-or-shine event, and spectators can expect to see some of the nicest cars and trucks in the area, along with a number of car enthusiasts who travel from Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, Kentucky and Ohio to participate, said officials.  Along with the display of cars, the Chattanooga Cruise In will feature local food vendors, such as Bitler Bistro, Shuford’s Smokehouse BBQ and more.

In addition to the normal Chattanooga Cruise In festivities, there will also be a Pinewood Derby race, held inside the Coker Tire facility. Participants will be able to purchase and build their own Pinewood Derby car on site, or they’re welcome to bring their own to race on a 45-foot race track. All proceeds for the Pinewood Derby races go to the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer.

Corky Coker, owner of Coker Tire, is an avid car collector, and is a known character in the automotive aftermarket. Mr. Coker is enthusiastic about driving classic cars, and encourages his customers to drive their cars often. The Chattanooga Cruise In offers an excuse for car enthusiasts to get out and enjoy the day in an old car.

Coker Tire’s headquarters is at 1317 Chestnut St. in historic downtown Chattanooga. Reach the office by calling toll free 1-800-251-6336 or visit Coker Tire’s website at www.cokertire.com. Check out the official Chattanooga Cruise In website at www.chattanoogacruisein.com
