Robert Wheeler “Bob” May, 98, of Chattanooga died on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at his home.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church since the 1950s and was a retired insurance executive.  He had played the trumpet in his early years and loved spending time with his family and friends.  He looked forward to eating at Wally’s Restaurant everyday for his mid-day meal.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eloize Tyson May, parents, Dee and Louise Wheeler May, grandson, Robert Allen Darwin, great-grandson, Michael Alexander and brother, William Wendell May. 

Survivors include his two daughters, Pat May (Jim) Snyder and Sara May (Robert) Newman, grandchildren, Cindy Puckett-Wiggins, Christie Snyder, James Patrick Snyder and Kelly Newman Alexander, great-grandchildren, Reagan Leighann Puckett, Trent David Puckett, Cole James Puckett and Rebekah Alexander (Michael) Harvey and great-great-granchildren, Michael Peyton Harvey, William Harvey and Brooks Harvey.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 22, at 1:30 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Reverend Mark McCrory officiating.  Burial will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Aug. 21, from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Arrangements are by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory at the end of Historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
