Effort To Add Members To IDB By City Council Fails To Pick Up Enough Votes

  • Tuesday, August 19, 2014

An effort to move the City Industrial Development Board from the current five members to nine did not pick up enough votes at the City Council on Tuesday afternoon.

In favor were Yusuf Hakeem, Ken Smith, Larry Grohn and Chip Henderson. Opposed were Moses Freeman, Russell Gilbert, Chris Anderson and Jerry Mitchell. Carol Berz was absent.

Councilman Hakeem said the move was no reflection on the board, which voted Friday 4-1 to reapprove a controversial $9 million Tax Increment Financing (TIF) to build a road and sewer line up Aetna Mountain.

He said having nine members would give each council member an opportunity to have a selection and to have input with that board member.
