Raiders Baseball Club To Hold Clinic And Tryouts For 9- And 10-Year-Olds

Raiders Baseball Club, based out of Chattanooga and North Georgia, will be hosting a clinic/tryout for upcoming 9-year-olds for the fall 2014 and spring 2015 seasons. It will take place at Baylor School on Aug. 2 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and Aug. 3 from 1-4 p.m. Both days are preferred but not required. The clinic/tryout will take place on the Baylor Softball Field. The clinic cost is $30.  Please arrive early for registration and warm-ups.

Tryouts for 10-year-olds will be held at Baylor School on the softball field on Aug. 9 from 10:00-1:00. The tryouts will be free of charge. Please arrive early for warm up and registration. Raider Baseball Club was established in the Fall of 2013.

Officials for 10U said, "Our club consisted of two youth baseball teams for the 2013-2014 season, our 9U team coached by Pete Jordan. Our 9U team finished with a record of 51-19 including title of USSSA Tennessee State AAA Champions and BPA World Series Gold Major Champions and also played in the Perfect Game Super 25 National Championship where we finished with a 4-1 record with a win over the nationally known Banditos Baseball Club from Texas as well as wins over teams from Indiana and Ohio, with our only loss to the eventual National Champions. We will play the 2015 season as a USSSA AAA team and BPA Gold Major. "

Officials for 9U said, "RBC finished with a record of 63-8 this year while playing throughout the Southeast area. We entered 15 tournaments and won 11 including the BPA World Series where our team finished first in the 8UCP Gold Major Division. We will be playing under 9UAAA & Major for USSSA sanctioned tournaments and under 9U Gold for BPA sanctioned tournaments for the upcoming season." 

Kurt Keene, Raider 9U coach, is a Baylor School Sports Hall of Fame Inductee. Kurt started and lettered in three Baylor School sports. In baseball, he was All-City as a junior,and the following year was All-City, Player of the Year, All-State, Gatorade State Player of the Year,and a Babe Ruth All-American. He set records for home runs, RBIs, and runs.

Kurt made his mark in the SEC after Baylor. First with the University of Tennessee and finishing out his collegiate eligibility at the University of Florida. He was All-SEC shortstop in 1997, and then at the University of Florida,where, in 2000, he was a two-time SEC Player of the Week, All-SEC first baseman, and named to the All-SEC and Regional Tournament teams. Even today, Kurt’s career hits rank sixth all-time in the SEC.
He was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays and hit for the cycle on May 16, 2003. Kurt played every position except catcher in his six year professional career.

9U Raider Pitching Coach is Chris McKnight.

Chris is a Kennesaw State Sports Hall of Fame Inductee. The left-hander pitcher posted impressive numbers before being drafted and joining the Atlanta Braves.  In his first season with the Owls’, Chris posted a 10-2 record en route to leading the Owls to the first of their two National Championships in 1994. The following year he won 13 of his 16 appearances, finishing with a 13-1 mark and an astonishing 1.82 earned run average. During that season, he dominated the Peach Belt Conference on the way to earning numerous accolades, including the PBC Pitcher of the Year and a NCAA Division II All-American. His 2.44 career ERA stands as the third best all-time and his 23 wins place him fifth. The Atlanta Braves drafted McKnight during Major League Baseball’s 1995 First-Year Player Draft.
