William Winfred Carmichael, 83, of Chattanooga, TN and Jackson County, AL, passed away on Sunday, July 20 in Kimball, TN.
He valiantly served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years, combat duty in both Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was retired from 20 years at the Cleveland, TN Post office. He was a member of Kimball Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Winfred and Fern Carmichael; first wife, Martha Colleen Dockery Carmichael; sisters, Mary Jo Poole and Nell Livingston; and an infant daughter.
He is survived by his wife, Nelle Woody Griffin Carmichael; three siblings, Elinor Collins, Thomas Carmichael (Sibyl) and Martha Sue Hickman (Arnold); two sons, Larry Duane Carmichael (Amy) and Steve Russell Carmichael (Elsie); five step-adults, Yvonne Olinger (Jamie), Eddy Griffin (Lou), Delisa Hammons (Neal), Carmen Rowe (Reggie) and Jason Griffin (Cindy); five grandchildren, Shane Carmichael (Andrea), Ryan Carmichael (Amanda), Jessica Broyles (Cameron), Stephanie Carmichael and William E. Carmichael; ten step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Troy Luttrel of Kimball Baptist Church, and Ken Guth of Proving Him Missionary Association, officiating. Interment will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
