Collegiate High has been named a “Rewards School” for performance in 2014. Reward Schools are the top five percent of schools for performance and the top five percent of schools for progress. To be designated as a Reward School, schools are measured by overall student achievement and determined annually by a one-year success rate.

"When Middle College High School renamed its program to Hamilton County Collegiate High at Chattanooga State earlier this year, the biggest news was that the program would be welcoming incoming 9th graders beginning in the fall of 2014. With 18 freshmen students enrolled, the Collegiate High freshmen class is on its way. A total of 150 students are enrolled in Collegiate High at Chattanooga State. As word of the popular program reaches both parents and students, it is expected to increase in popularity for future semesters." officials said.

The Collegiate High staff includes Dr. Sonja Rich, principal; Elizabeth Jones, secretary; Amy Blazek, counselor; Angela Karnes-Eddinger, English teacher; and Adina Odom, math teacher.
The new cohort structure allows students to attend classes on a college schedule. A specially designed Collegiate High Commons that opened earlier this fall is used exclusively for Collegiate High students as a place to study and socialize. To celebrate its success, students were treated to a pizza party in the Commons area. When asked what they liked best about the Commons, the unanimous voice was, “It’s ours.”

Principal Rich shares that the Commons is working out “really well.” She emphasizes that the area provides a safe and inviting environment for students to study and socialize.

“I usually do my homework at home and don’t have any free time. The Commons gives me the chance to relax and hang out with my friends when I’m not in class,” adds Becca Brown.
