The Tennessee Valley Authority is coordinating with multiple federal, state and local emergency response agencies to conduct a routine emergency preparedness exercise involving TVA’s Sequoyah Nuclear Plant on Wednesday.
Part of an ongoing series of emergency exercises required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Wednesday’s drill will involve nearly 1,000 personnel from TVA, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, and emergency responders from both Hamilton and Bradley counties.
Residents in the area may see radiological monitoring teams, hear on- and off-site sirens and note increased activity at and near the Sequoyah plant, as well as near TVA’s Chattanooga offices.
Wednesday’s drill will be followed by a graded exercise in November, and results will be shared in a Department of Homeland Security public meeting.
