Fishing Report From TWRA

  • Tuesday, November 20, 2012

Here is the fishing report from TWRA:

Center Hill: Fishing is good.  Water temperature is 61 degrees; lake is stable.    A few bass are being caught while jigging spoons under minnows in 30 feet of water.  Crappie fishing is fair on jigs and minnows while fishing brush in 15 feet of water.

Chickamauga: The surface water temperature is in the upper 50's. The surface elevation on 11/18/12 was 678.4 feet. This is 1.5 feet higher than the target elevation for the date, but 3.6 feet below the summer mean elevation.

Striped bass are being caught more often in the main lake areas on the mid to lower end of the lake. Some shallow striped bass are being caught by bass anglers, but striper anglers are targeting them around baitfish at a depth of 20 feet. Jigs are being used by many anglers. Crappie are being caught along bluff areas while using jigs in 8 to 20 feet of water. Some shallow crappie are being caught near brushpiles. Minnows are being used for bait more often in the shallow areas. Bass are being caught along shallow banks in areas adjacent to large water areas. Topwater baits are being used as often as any other bait. Catfish are being caught while using any meaty bait. An occasional sauger is being caught while using jigs along the tailwater bottoms.

Cordell Hull:  Fishing is fair.  Water temperature is 60 degrees; lake is a winter pool.  A few bass are being caught on crankbaits and jigs while fishing channel banks in 10 feet of water.  Crappie fishing is good on the lower end while fishing minnows and lay down trees in about 10 feet of water.  A few sauger are being caught near Sale Lick, while fishing in the channel with jigs.

Dale Hollow:  Fishing is fair.  Water temperature is 58 degrees; lake is falling.  A few smallmouth are being caught on jigs and spinners fishing points in 20-to-30 feet of water on the main lake.  Crappie fishing is fair, while fishing minnows and jigs in the upper end of the lake in 15 feet of water.

Nickajack: The surface water temperature is in the 50's. Tailwater anglers are catching bass, crappie, catfish, and bluegill. The tailwater crappie are being caught in the slow water isolated areas while using jigs or minnows for bait. Jigs, crankbaits, and livebait anglers are catching spotted bass, smallmouth bass, and largemouth bass. Worms are being used to entice the bluegill. Catfish anglers are using shad more often than other baits. The anglers on the lower end of the reservoir are using topwater lures, spinnerbaits and lipless lures more often than other lures. The evening bite is better than the later bite. It seems to take a while to get the baitfish moving. Some schoolers can be found below the interstate.

Watts Bar: The lake was at 738.9 feet on 11/18/12. This elevation is 1.5 feet below summer mean elevation. Crappie anglers in the mid to lower lake are catching as many crappie as they have in recent memory. Tightlining with jigs and dipping minnows along rocky banks in the primary and secondary areas are techniques many are using, but the trollers are probably catching the greater number of crappie. Secondary areas are the areas trollers are focused on. Some days the crappie are 8 to 10 feet deep and other days they move into deeper water. Bass anglers are catching bass while casting crankbaits along rocky secondary banks and near the baitfish. Smallmouth bass are being caught in most cases in primary areas near shad and close to rocky areas.  Tailwater anglers are catching a few sauger and walleye. The number of sauger being caught is low. Striped bass are being caught around baitfish in the main lake in water depths ranging from 15 to 25 feet deep. Catfish are being caught by many anglers targeting catfish and even many anglers targeting other species.
