Barbara Ann Timbrook died peacefully at the age of 95 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on April 30, 2024.

She is survived by three daughters: Dr. Kimberlee Timbrook Brown of Charleston, S.C., Gina Wilson of Dunkirk, N.Y., and Chanel Clifford of Chattanooga, as well as 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Mimi Timbrook and her sister, Susan Fry.

Born in Columbus, In., on Oct. 8, 1928, to James W. and Wanda C. Leppert, Barbara was a member of the first Brownie Girl Scout troop in Columbus and remained active in scouting. She was a leader for many of her daughters’ troops, later becoming the neighborhood chairman for the Girl Scouts in Beverly Hills, Ca.

She graduated from Columbus High School and attended Franklin College in Franklin, In., where she pledged Pi Beta Phi Sorority and remained active her entire life. She lived through the Great Depression and World War II, affording her many lifelong skills including cooking, sewing and saving.

She married Robert Lee Timbrook in1947 and devoted her adult life to raising their four girls. Her family moved often, living all over the United States, and she always attended church, volunteering in many capacities.

Once her daughters were grown, she started to work outside the home. She had a long career in sales and in her retirement years managed the box office for Daytona Beach Community College in Daytona Beach, Fl., where she lived for 35 years.

She was passionate about architecture and the arts. She led architecture tours in Columbus, which is home to seven National Historic Landmarks. Her delightful hometown ranks sixth in the US for architectural innovation and design according to the American Institute of Architects, featuring works by Eliel Saarinen, Eero Saarinen, Kevin Roche, I.M. Pei, Harry Weese and Deborah Berke. Barbara was honored with an achievement award after volunteering for many years at the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Daytona Beach, where she enjoyed being a docent at several of its properties.

She was affectionately known as Mommy, Grandmommy, Granny or GiGi depending on which child, grandchild or great grandchild was addressing her. In her prime, she was resilient and articulate, respected by many and loved by all. She will be dearly missed.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date in Columbus, In., where she will join her parents and her daughter Mimi. In lieu of flowers, and in no obligation, please donate to Gentiva Hospice. They provided great care for her and for her family in her last days she was with us. https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/GentivaFoundation/GHS.html
