  • Monday, April 29, 2024
Lee University senior Oliver Lewis-Perkins was named Gulf South Conference Golfer of the Year after a stellar season as announced by the league on Monday. The Flames have won the golfer of the year award for the third straight season after Beck Burnette won it the last two seasons. Lewis-Perkins was also named to the First Team All-GSC. Junior Trey Melvin earned Second Team All-GSC accolades as well.

Oliver Lewis-Perkins had 28 rounds played for the Flames this year. He had two individual wins (Copperhead Championship, WindRiver Individual Intercollegiate) and 4th place finish at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate. He had a 72.48 scoring average this season. He was also on the All-Tournament Team for the GSC championship after coming in fourth.

Head Coach Evan Spence is excited for the honor for Lewis-Perkins. "I’m very happy for and proud of Ollie for this great accomplishment! There are many great players in our Conference this year so for him to earn this honor as Player of the Year is one that should not be taken lightly and is very well deserved. It hasn’t always been easy for Ollie this year, but he has showed great resiliency and found a way to dig deep and give us great performances time and time again.”

Trey Melvin had 20 rounds played for the Flames this year. He had a 73.5 scoring average. He had a 10th place at the WindRiver Individual Intercollegiate, a 5th place at the Hurricane Invitational, and a 12th place at the Copperhead Championship. He finished sixth at the GSC championships.

“Thrilled for Trey and so happy to see him get this great honor! Trey is one of the most competitive people I’ve ever been around and has a side of him that he is able to tap into when it matters the most that is so impressive. Trey is a grinder and I’m proud of the work he has put in this season. He has definitely earned this honor!” noted Spence.

For the second year in a row, Supuschaya "Yui" Srichantamit was named Gulf South Conference Golfer of the Year as announced by the league on Monday. Head Coach Geandra Almeida was named Co-Coach of the year, and Hannah Nall and Banthita "Pearl" Phoncharatkun were named to the First Team All-GSC.

Srichantamit is the sixth golfer in the history of the GSC to repeat as golfer of the year. She helped lead the Lady Flames this year and was the individual medalist of the GSC championship. She is #20 in the national ranking. She has a scoring average (adj.) of 72.7, played a total of 24 rounds, six top 10 finishes, three top 3 finishes, and had two individual wins.

Coach Almeida is very proud of what all Srichantamit has accomplished this year. "I'm incredibly proud of Yui. There is no one more deserving of being named the GSC Player of the Year. This award is a result of her impeccable work ethic and determination. Yui has been consistently great for us, and I am so thankful for the leadership role she has taken on for our team."

Banthita Phoncharatkun is #52 in the national ranking this year. She has a scoring average (adj.) of 73.8. She has three top 3 finishes, two top 15 finishes, and three top 20 finishes. She played a total of 24 rounds.

Hannah Nall is #84 in the national ranking. She has a scoring average (adj.) of 74.5. She has three top 10s, two top 15s, three top 25s. Nall played a total of 24 rounds this year.

"I'm also very proud of Pearl and Hannah for earning the First Team All-GSC honors. They really deserve this award as each one of them has made contributions to our team's success this season and I am so glad to see their hard work paying off! noted Almeida.

It is the second time that Coach Almieda has earned GSC Coach of the Year. She shares the award with Coach Kristen Dorsey of the University of West Florida.

"I am extremely honored to be named the co-coach of the year. This award would not be possible without the commitment and dedication of each one of my players and some great help from our Assistant Coach, Connor Pollman. I shared this honor with Coach Pollman who has been extremely helpful and greatly contributed to our success on and off the golf course," Almeida concluded.
