Charlene Jones Rutledge, 84, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 20, 2024. She was born on June 30, 1939, in Chattanooga.

Charlene was a devoted wife, mother and friend. She was known for her unwavering support and active involvement in her daughters’ lives, always seeking out opportunities for them to shine. Charlene had a charitable heart, always offering a listening ear, a loving heart, and a comforting shoulder to cry on to all those in need. Her strong faith in Christ was evident in her daily actions, showing kindness, generosity, and a giving spirit to everyone around her.

Charlene is survived by her loving husband, Gene McMillon Rutledge of 61 years, her daughters, Gena Rutledge Harris of Signal Mountain, Laura Rutledge Smith of Rome, Italy, and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Silas Arnold Jones, her mother, Irene Petty Jones and her sisters, Mildred Ruth Henderson and Dorthy Dorleen Brown.

Charlene graduated from Central High School, class of ‘56. She was a current member of Red Bank Baptist Church and a former member of White Oak Baptist Church.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Gentiva Hospice for their loving kindness and wonderful care they showed toward our mother throughout her illness.

The funeral service will be held at Hamilton Funeral Home in Hixson, on April 26, at 11 a.m.

Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, and 10-11 a.m. on April 26, before the funeral.

Charlene will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love, kindness, and faith will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
