Commissioner Mackey Thanks The Voters

  • Tuesday, August 14, 2018

I am writing to thank the voters who have re-elected me to represented them on the Hamilton County Commission.

I am especially humbled at the high level of trust that was given to me. In the primary I received 72o percent of the vote. In the general election conducted last week an amazing 83 percent of the voters supported me.

Again I must say that I am humbled and I say thank you.

Now that I have been re-elected to represent the district I will continue to be present and in your midst listening to your concerns and voicing them in my votes.

While campaigning I heard three major concerns for those who live in the district. Firstly, I heard you tell me that the youth need help in getting their lives on track towards jobs and a future. The conversations that spoke to the idleness, violence and lack of stableness in our communities reflected this concern. Consequently, I will look to support programs that will imbue them with the skills and knowledge that will lead them to more productive lives.

Secondly, in my conversations with you we talked about how we have brought a lot of good jobs to Hamilton County. Our unemployment rate of about three percent is below the national average. Be that as it may we agreed that too many of our family members, neighbors and friends are unemployed and under-employed. During this term in office I will support any measure that will bring job training to our community.

The third major concern that resonated in the district is the lack of affordable housing. Chattanooga is becoming ever more gentrified and persons are being pushed further and further out. I will support pilots and policies that will bring decent and affordable housing to Hamilton County.
