The Doggie-1000-Egg Hunt will be held again this year at the McKamey Animal Center, 4500 North Access Road in Chattanooga. McKamey staff and volunteers are preparing the largest doggie egg hunt (over 1000 eggs) for their 2nd annual event on Saturday March 24, starting at 10 a.m. Early registration is encouraged, beginning at 9 a.m.
According to Volunteer Coordinator Karen Wilson, "This is one of our most popular events for all dogs, from Chihuahuas to Great Danes."
To ensure an even playing field for all dogs, there will be three fields divided according to the size of the dogs. There are individual hunt fields for small, medium, and large breed dogs. Staff will be hiding over 1000 eggs total. The eggs are packed with goodies and treats for the dogs who find them. All dogs must be on a leash at all times and have a current rabies vaccination.
The cost of the event is $5 per dog, or participants can donate kitten, cat or dog food, although kitten food is preferred. The donated food is used for the residents at the McKamey Animal Center, home to over 6,500 homeless animals annually. "Shelters are experiencing an unusually high number of animals this time of the year, and McKamey is no exception. With kitten season also right around the corner, McKamey relies on donations from events such as the Doggie Egg Hunt to care for homeless animals at the shelter," officials said.
