Fire Destroys $1 Million House On Signal Mountain Early Sunday Morning

  • Sunday, November 4, 2018

Fire destroyed a house on Signal Mountain early Sunday morning.

At 1:40 a.m., a house sitter called 911 reporting a fire on the back deck of the home. Walden’s Ridge Emergency Services responded to 1329 Sunset Drive kn the town of Signal Mountain. Due to the construction on Signal Mountain Road, the Chattanooga Fire Department responded as automatic mutual aid to the fire scene.

The Chattanooga Fire Department was the first engine to arrive on the scene reporting heavy fire on the deck. Firefighters had a challenge getting water on the fire quickly. Since the  house sat some 120 feet off the main road, firefighters had to lay over 2,000 feet of hose line to get water on the fire.

Fire officials also had to deal with the rugged terrain that was a challenge getting fire apparatus to the scene.

Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire  Department, Sequoyah Volunteer Fire  Department, and Lone Oak Volunteer Fire  Department responded for Mutual Aid bringing additional tanker engines and manpower to the scene.

Walden’s Ridge Emergency Services Fire Chief Jimmy Hillis reported the house is a total loss. Damages will likely be over $1 million. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

No injuries were reported, but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for potential injuries to the firefighters.
