It will be up to the State Election Commission to name a replacement on the Hamilton County Election Commission for Kelvin Scott.
Mr. Scott automatically dropped off of the panel after qualifying to run for the District 4 County Commission seat.
Kerry Steelman, election administrator, said, "§TCA 2-12-102(b) stipulates any member of the county election commission who qualifies as a candidate for any public office while serving as a member of the commission shall automatically become disqualified to continue in office as a member of the commission, and a vacancy on the commission shall be considered to exist.
"The vacancy will be filled through appointment by the state election commission."
Mr. Scott, a Democrat, was named to the commission in 2013 on the advice of Rep. JoAnne Favors.
The state election panel relies heavily on the county's legislative delegation for the choice.
The Hamilton County Election Commission has three Republicans and two Democrats. The new appointee will be a Democrat.
