Billie Hamilton, 104, formerly a resident of South Pittsburg, died of natural causes on June 5, 2017.
She was a long-time resident of Alexian Village on Signal Mountain. Billie was preceded in death by her spouse of 44 years, Isaac Newton “Ike” Hamilton, her parents, and step-father, William H. Paxton.
The only child of Annie McLellan and William Hale, Willie Hammond “Billie” Hale was born July 11, 1912, in Birmingham, Al. She attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, and graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1935, with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She taught briefly in the Marion County Schools.
While raising her family in South Pittsburg, she was active in the Garden Club, a Cub and Girl Scout Leader, and a member of Christ Church Episcopal. She was an expert seamstress, whose favorite past times included reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing bridge, and knitting.
Survivors include her children: Barry Hamilton and wife Nancy of Jamestown, NC, and Hale Hamilton and wife Bonnie of Signal Mountain, Ann “Kitty” Nolen and husband Les of Memphis, and Jane Turner and husband David of Houston. Additionally, she leaves 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
The family plans to gather for a celebration of her life on Aug. 26, at 10 a.m. at Christ Church Episcopal in South Pittsburg, Tn.
