Thomas Says His Cousin Shot Him After They Argued, Fought On Oakland Avenue

Police said 20-year-old Terry Thomas said his cousin, Jonathan Allen Smith, shot him after they argued and fought on Oakland Avenue late Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 16.
 
Smith, 33, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault.
 
Chattanooga Police responded to a person shot at the 4300 block at Oakland Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located the victim who was suffering from a gunshot wound. Hamilton County EMS responded and transported him to a local hospital to be treated for his non-life threatening injuries.
 
The suspect fled the area before police arrival.
 
The shooting victim said another cousin, La Shawn Toney, broke up their fight. He said Smith then said he was going to get his shoes. Instead, he returned with a gun.
 
The victim was shot in the left forearm, with the bullet striking his right thigh as well.
 
Smith fired a second shot in the air before leaving.
 
Police said Smith is a felon and is not suppose to handle guns.
