Robert L. McMurray, 87,  of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, and formerly Cleveland, Tennessee, died recently. 

He is survived by his wife, Maury Leftwich McMurray; daughters and sons-in-law, Marcia McMurray and Rick Hooper, Cathy and Steve Hixson, Ginger and Mike Mullican, all of Cleveland, and Louise and Bill Young of Canal Winchester, Ohio; grandchildren, Nicole Floyd, Lee Stanfill, Sarah Young, Rachel Young, and Mallory Shealy; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Arthur A. McMurray and Frances O. McMurray; grandson, Robert K. Westphal; sister, Virginia M. Vollmer; and brother, Keith S. McMurray.

He graduated from University of Missouri and Vanderbilt Law School, where he was Order of the Coif and an editor of Vanderbilt Law Review.  Before retiring in 2010, he practiced law for 55 years, 45 of them in Cleveland, with Bell and Associates and McMurray Law Office.

He was a member and past president of both Tennessee Bar Association and Bradley County Bar Association, a member of American Bar Association and Chattanooga Estate Planning Council, a founding Fellow and past president of Tennessee Bar Foundation, Fellow of both American Bar Foundation and The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.  He was a member and past president of Kiwanis Club of Cleveland.

At the time of his death he was a member of Anglican Church of the Redeemer in Chattanooga.  He had been a member of and on the vestry of  both St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, Signal Mountain, and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Cleveland.  

The family thanks all of the staff at Alexian Memory Care and Health Care, as well as the caregivers from Brightstar for all of the care and support they provided.

Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. on Friday, June 2, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Cleveland, Tennessee, with the service to follow at 2 p.m.
