Baylor Wins 9-0 Over Pope John Paul II In Division II Soccer

The Baylor boys soccer team hosted JPII in opening round of the Division II state tournament. Baylor scored five goals in the first half and four in the second to earn a 9-0 win.  

Matheus Maia had three first half goals and an assist in the second half.  

Also scoring for Baylor was Keegan Weekley, Dee Appleberry, Sam Joyner, John Musick, Eemeli Makela and Murphy McMahon.  Caly Thames and Miles Marks had assists along with Musick, Makala, Weekley and Maia.  

Baylor advances to play at Christian Brothers in the quarterfinals next weekend. The winner of that game will advance to the Division II semifinals in Murfreesboro.  

"We played very well today,"  Baylor head coach Curtis Blair said.  "We have been working on our movement off the ball and we did a good job of moving the ball quickly and finding gaps. Now we have a huge task in front of us, as we travel to Christian Brothers to play them. It was a great team effort today."

Baylor out shot Pope John Paul II 22-3. Henry Hooks had two saves for Baylor and Will Peyton had 10  saves for PJPII.

Baylor improves their overall record to 12-4-3.
