David Lamar Flerl
Police have brought charges against David Lamar Flerl after back-to-back fires to a camper and then a truck at 1914 Lynnbrook Ave. on Monday.
Flerl, 43, of 4297 Byrnewood Village Circle, Hixson, was charged with reckless burning, reckless endangerment and cruelty to animals.
Police said Flerl was found standing near both burning vehicles.
Police and fire initially responded on a camper fire. The camper was a total loss. Police said Flerl was told to move away from the camper.
On the second call, police said Flerl was standing next to the truck. An officer yelled for him to get back.
A dog was tied up some 10 feet away.
Flerl claimed that flames from the camper had landed in the truck, causing it to catch fire.
A neighbor said Flerl said he was angry so she went to the window to check on him. She said she saw him putting something in the truck and it then caught fire. She said he kept adding items to the burning truck.
Another woman said Flerly is "a pyromaniac." She said he once threatened her son with a burning stick.
McKamey Animal Shelter came to the location and took the dog away.
A yellow lighter was found in the back left pocket of the jeans that Flerl was wearing.
