Mary Willingham Martin, 82 of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2017, after a long and a courageous battle with Alzheimers.
She was born on July 16, 1935, in Chattanooga. She attended Lookout Mountain School, GPS, Stephens College, and the University of Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary McClure and W. Jay Willingham, as well as her brother Jay M. Willingham.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James B. Martin: three sons, Bryan (Kim) Martin, Jay (Evelyn)Martin, and Calder (Amy) Martin: brother, Guy (Neenah) Willingham: five grandchildren, Meg Martin (Brian)Weaver, Bryan Martin III, David Martin, Calder Martin Jr., and Will Martin, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mary was a longtime member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Lookout Mountain, where she was a member of the choir. She also taught music to young children for many years at their school program. Mary was known for her love of music. She was a great cook and loved to entertain. Many friends and family members will cherish memories of gatherings around the piano, which was one of her favorite pastimes. She was known for her beautiful voice and was loved by all that knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 3, at 4 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Lookout Mountain. Interment will follow in Harriet Caldwell Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Laramore and nurse Lisa for years of dedicated care. They would also like to thank the entire staff at the Manor House Assisted Living for their loving care and deep compassion.
