Amon "A. C." York, 81, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, beloved husband, father, paw-paw, and brother left this world to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 26, 2017.

A. C. was born in Dade County, GA to the late Ralph and Bertha York. He moved to Chattanooga after serving in the U. S. Army. He was stationed in Germany while serving his country. He was employed by Commonwealth Insurance Company and later opened his own independent insurance agency, 58 Highway Insurance and then opened 58 Highway Trophy Shop so he and Doris could work side by side.

He leaves behind to cherish his wonderful memories his loving wife of 56 years, Doris Durham York; children, Gregory S. York (Karissa) and Tracie Y. Merriman (special friend Ronnie Antle), all of Ooltewah; four grandchildren, Ashley Watters (Wade), Allison D'Angelo (Joe), Alayna & Isabella York; great grandchildren, Braelyn Merriman and Wyatt Watters; mother-in-law, Isabell Durham; brothers Curtis York (Jo) of Chickamauga, GA, Larry York (Janet) of Trenton, GA; sisters, Martha Miller (Danny) of Manchester, TN, Jeanette Prince of Trenton, GA, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Ralph W., Rev. J. P., Lebron, William (Shorty) York; Ivalee Derryberry and Dortha Guinn.

During his life, he enjoyed spending time with his family, coaching his son in Little League sports and coaching his daughter in softball. He also enjoyed playing golf at Brainerd and Brown Acres with his many friends.

He attended Ridgedale Baptist Church. He was a member of Alhambra Shrine Center.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, in the funeral home chapel with Dr. William Owens and Brother Doug Plumlee officiating. Interment will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alhambra Shrine Center Children Transportation Fund, 1000 Alhambra Dr. Chattanooga, TN 37421 or your favorite charity.

The family would like to thank Camellia Home Health, Caris Healthcare & Hospice, and Brittany and Amanda for their wonderful care as well as our family and friends for their support and prayers.
