U.S. Army Veteran Held Careers With Combustion Engineering And TVA

Charles David McGee, 82 of Chattanooga went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, after several years of declining health. 

Charles was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class as well as an usher.

Charles was preceded in death by his grandparents, Virgil and Dora McGee and Jess and Maggie Charles; his parents, L.D. and Venus McGee and his sister, Joy Mavity.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elaine (Robertson) McGee; brother, Jack McGee; cousin, Judy Henegar of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; brother-in-law, Bill Mavity; nephews, Keith Mavity of Gainesville, Ga., and Reggie McGee.

Charles graduated from Chattanooga High School class of 1954, was a graduate of the University of Chattanooga and gained the rank of Captain in the U.S. Army Signal Corp.  He was employed at Combustion Engineering for a number of years and later retired from TVA.  He always enjoyed playing golf and loved cars.  Charles loved people, had many friends and never met a stranger.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on  Monday, Oct. 30, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, with Dr. Steve Rowland, Dr. Bill Owens and Brian Keith Mavity officiating.  Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Jim Coan, Glen Davis, Tom Franklin, Royce Gateley, Jeff Gore, Gene Humphrey, Richard Maas, Stan Russell and Larry White.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Friendship Sunday School Class and the Combustion Lunch Club which he hosted.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on  Sunday, and 11 a.m.–12 p.m. on  Monday at the funeral home.
