Here are upcoming news and events from Outdoor Chattanooga:

Introduction to Mountain Biking: Skills Class Sept. 9, 16 & 20

Mountain biking is so much more than just riding your bike in the woods! Outdoor Chattanooga's Introduction to Mountain Biking Program offers formal instruction to those that are new to the sport, or who want to get more out of riding. We invite you to join one of the Skills Classes being offered in September from 6-8 p.m.

at Greenway Farms. You'll receive instruction and skills demonstration from our experienced mountain bike staff while practicing newly learned skills and riding techniques in a controlled setting. Appropriate for ages 10-110. Cost is $10 per person per class. Registration and payment is required in advance. Call Outdoor Chattanooga at (423) 643-6888 to register and make payment. Loaner equipment is available if needed, but is limited. *Participants must already know how to confidently ride a bike for these classes. 

Family Funday: Archery and Canoeing at Greenway Sept. 11
Join Outdoor Chattanooga at the Greenway Farms for a Family Funday full of activity on Sunday, Sept. 11 between the hours of 4 to 7 p.m. Choose a leisure canoe trip on N. Chickamauga Creek, try archery at the new program Archery Range, bring a picnic, bring a bike or take a nature hike. For more information contact Outdoor Chattanooga at 423-643-6888.

Canoeing:
Outdoor Chattanooga will provide all the equipment for you to paddle the creek at your own pace. Children under 30 lbs. should bring their own Personal Flotation Device (life jacket).Meet at the N. Chick canoe launch behind the old Sniteman Cabin. Canoes available from 4 - 7 p.m. for $25 per canoe | first come, first served. (cash or check only)

Archery: 

Aim for adventure with our new archery program. All ages will enjoy testing their aim at the bulls-eye targets placed before an arrow resistant net. This program range is located next to the dog park. Outdoor Chattanooga staff will provide the instruction, guidance, and equipment for this activity suited for all ages. Available between 4 - 7 p.m. No fee. 

Community Events

Blues in the Knob: NPS Centennial Celebration September 10

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, the Orchard Knob Neighborhood Association, and the Friends of the Park are partnering on Saturday, September 10 from 5 - 10 p.m. at Orchard Knob Reservation for a Centennial event - Blues in the Knob. "Find Your Park" while celebrating the historic community around Orchard Knob. Enjoy the sounds of four blues bands while seated inside Orchard Knob Reservation. Ranger-led kids' activities will focus on music during the Civil war while sharing the rich history of this unique urban park known as Orchard Knob. 

Lynskey TYMBR Race Series at ESPN September 10
Tennessee Youth Mountain Bike Race (TYMBR) is presented by Cohutta Adventures. FahrvergaNOOGA is the second (TYMBR) series event and will be held at Log Rhythm Trail at Enterprise South Nature Park on Sat., Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a youth only event, appropriate for ages 5-15. You can register here. 

Star Walk Party at Harrison Bay September 10
The Star Walk, inspired by the Grossmugl Star Walk in Austria, is a self-guided tour that encourages astronomical and environmental observation with the unaided eye. Participants walk through a 1/2 mile gravel loop that houses 13 separate Star Walk stations as well as a giant planisphere or star wheel. Come celebrate science education, astronomy, and the night sky with us on Saturday, September 10 from 6:30-10:30 pm at Harrison Bay State Park. This is free to the public.

Waconda Bay's SUP Retreat Weekend - Sept 10 - 11
Waconda Bay's SUP Retreat Weekend will include Yoga on the water and Heartfull™ Meditation classes led by Certified Purna Yoga Instructor, Jayne Cagle, and SUP race training clinics led by competitive paddling enthusiast, Haley Mills. Rest and rejuvenate your body and spirit, learn something new or just to enjoy being part of a fun community of paddlers. Online registration. Cost $45 single session, $80 for two sessions, or $35 each for three+ sessions. BYOBoard = $20 per session (for one to four sessions).

Green Commuter's Beta Bash September 8
Come out to learn more about Green Commuter and how you could benefit from participation in Chattanooga's newest innovative transportation service. The celebration will include cake and an ice cream sundae social at Outdoor Chattanooga, 200 River St. in Cooldige Park on Thurs., Sept. 8 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. to show gratitude towards the amazing beta testers and interested potential members. Pop in or a stay a while. It's going to be SWEET! In addition, there will be tons of Green Commuter swag and giveaways. 

Community Planning Session for Sterchi Farm September 13
 
Trust for Public Land (TPL) and The City of Chattanooga are starting a new community plan for The Sterchi Farm Trailhead of the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway. The trailhead is the northern destination (off of Dodson Avenue) of the Glass Street Connector project.  The intent of this effort is to plan for better community access to this protected open space through a series of on-site meetings with residents in the East Chattanooga area. TPL, Public Art Chattanooga, and the City Parks Division will work to reconstruct the old dairy barn on site into a functioning park amenity. The first meeting will be held Tuesday, September 13 at 6 p.m. at the Sterchi Farm Trailhead 2998, Harrison Pike, Chattanooga, TN 37406. TPL will be providing barbecue for the first 75 people that come out to participate. If you are unable to attend the meeting or would like more information on the picnic-please contact Andrea Hamilton the Chattanooga Trust for Public Land Office Manager at (423) 265-5229 or by email. Come out, bring a chair and your appetite. We look forward to involving you in process. Join us for a great evening on South Chickamauga Creek!
