Interim Superintendent Dr. Kirk Kelly and top administrators with the Hamilton County Department of Education (HCDE), stopped by Chattanooga State during a congratulatory “road trip.” Collegiate High Principal Dr. Sonja Rich, along with Collegiate High personnel and students, were on hand to greet the administrators and receive congratulations as one of 11 schools that had increased their ACT scores.
The 2016 graduating class managed to increase not only their composite score from 24 to 26, but also raised scores in all four subgroups meaning all graduates were deemed “college-ready.”
English: 24.8 to 27.2
Math: 21.8 to 23.7
Reading: 25.3 to 27.6
Science: 24.0 to 25.2
The benchmark scores required of college-ready students include marks of 18 in English, 22 in Math and Reading, and 24 in Science.
Over the last five years, Collegiate High graduates have increased their composite score from 23.6 to 26, but it was the class of 2016 that experienced the biggest increase during that time period.
“Raising ACT scores is a collaborative effort. We appreciate HCDE, Chattanooga State, parents, faculty, staff, and the students for their dedication and focus on academic success,” praises Dr. Rich.
