Police said a woman driving a stolen car on Friday almost hit police officers with it, then wrecked and caused "multiple injuries."
Lindsay Morris, 26, of 2310 E. 4th St., is facing multiple charges. She is being held on bonds totaling over $100,000.
The incident started when a woman driving on I-24 in Brainerd spotted her car that had been stolen. She began following it.
The vehicle pulled off the freeway at Fourth Avenue and went into East Lake Courts.
Police found the vehicle backed into a parking space with the engine still running. As one officer approached the vehicle, another officer noted that it was still occupied.
When an officer attempted to open the passenger side door the vehicle "accelerated extremely rapidly, causing me to run beside the vehicle for several feet before I was able to let go of the handle."
The vehicle accelerated rapidly toward one officer was in a patrol car and another was standing beside it.
One officer said, "I feared that the vehicle was attempting to strike myself and (the other officer) so I prepared for a collision. At the last second, the suspect vehicle swerved to my left, missing my vehicle and (the other officer) by inches.
The officers lost sight of the vehicle and learned it was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed toward E. 23rd Street. It crashed with several vehicles at 23rd Street and Fourth Avenue.
The driver fled on foot toward the nearby Family Dollar.
A security guard held the drive, Ms. Lindsay, until police arrived.
She is charged with driving on a revoked license, failure to obey traffic control signals, two counts of aggravated assault, failure to exercise due care, theft of property over $10,000, reckless driving, felony evading arrest and leaving the scene of an accident with injury.
Her past record includes robbery and several assaults.
