A witness told police he saw Cornelius Douglas and Jermichael Tillery arguing prior to the slaying of Douglas in East Chattanooga on Sunday.

The witness said he tried to get Douglas to leave. He said as he turned to get his cell phone he heard gunfire.

The man said he started to run, but he turned at one point and saw Tillery shooting Douglas.

He said he saw Tillery fire at least 13 shots at Douglas.

The witness said Douglas returned fire and Tillery was wounded.

Tillery fled the scene and was found a block away, where he was taken to the hospital, police said.

Tillery denied being in an altercation with Douglas and said he was shot by someone else in another location.

He was charged with criminal homicide and unlawful possession of a firearm.
