Cleveland State was unable to secure a victory in this afternoon's double header at Chattanooga State.
The Cougars lost game one 7-6 and were shut out in game two 7-0.
"We had a chance in game one and gave it away with poor at bats and defense," said head coach Mike Policastro. "In game two we were never in it."
Cleveland State (5-6) fell behind early in game one after a three run second inning by the Tigers.
Freshman centerfielder Devin Gardner tripled in the top of the third driving in two runs cutting into the deficit.
Sophomore first baseman Drew Curtis hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth to tie it up.
The Cougars took the lead after a three run top of the fifth led by sophomore second baseman Lee Gibson's two-run single.
Chattanooga State (8-2) then scored two in the bottom of the fifth to make it a one run game. The Tigers won in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single from rightfielder Taylor Maxie.
In game two freshman Hugo Casilla shut out the Cougars pitching a complete game four hitter striking out six and walking two.
Freshman second baseman Matt Wood led the Tigers with two runs batted in. Sophomore third baseman Brandon Melendez smacked a double to lead off the bottom of the second for the game's only extra base hit.
"We have to play a lot better in all phases of the game to have a chance to win," said Policastro.
Neither game this afternoon will be counted in the conference standings.
Cleveland State returns to the field Tuesday hosting Gordon State College in the last warm-up before conference play begins next Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
