Shannon Whitfield and Mike Peardon continue to get an early jump on the Walker County Sole Commissioner race.
Both local businessmen announced prior to the first of the year that they would seek the post held by Bebe Heiskell.
Election officials said the actual qualifying period is March 7-11.
However, candidates are allowed to earlier file letters of intent that allows them to begin posting signs and collecting money.
Mr. Whitfield is vice president of Whitfield Oil, and Mr. Peardon has a construction business.
Election officials said, "We haven't heard from Bebe Heiskell yet."
During the qualifying period, Republican candidates will file their papers with the county Republican Party. Party officials will then submit them to the election office each night.
"We don't know yet if any Democrats are running," officials said.
Also on the ballot in May will be sheriff, tax commissioner, probate court judge, magistrate, clerk of court, state court judge, coroner and school board posts 1, 4 and 5.
