Erlanger Launches New Heart And Lung Institute Friday

Officials with Erlanger will be launching the health system’s new Heart and Lung Institute during ceremonies Friday, beginning at 11 a.m. in Erlanger’s Medical Mall.  

Open heart surgeon, Dr. Larry Shears, who specializes in robotic minimally invasive heart surgery, will be “shearing” the ceremonial red ribbon using Erlanger’s DaVinci robot.  

Guests and visitors are invited to walk through a giant replica of a human heart in the Medical Mall, as well as test their skills on one of Erlanger’s four DaVinci robots.

Spiegel will be introducing the health system’s growing heart and lung team, and announcing plans for a major building expansion on the downtown campus, which is expected to be completed in 2017.
