One of the winning tickets for the huge Powerball prize was sold in Tennessee - but still far away from Chattanooga.
It was in tiny Munford, which is 25 miles north of Memphis. Tennessee Lottery President and CEO Rebecca Hargrove was headed to Munford to announce the winning Powerball Jackpot retailer and to present a $25,000 check to the retailer.
The big $1.58 billion prize will be shared with two others as winning tickets were also sold in California and in Florida.
This prize is the largest jackpot in World Lottery history and the fifth Powerball jackpot winner in the state of Tennessee.
Should these Powerball winners opt to take the lump-sum payment, the cash value of the $1.58 billion jackpot is $983.5 million. The Tennessee winner has 180 days from the day of the drawing to claim the prize.
The Tennessee Lottery advises the lucky Tennessee ticket-holder to:
• Sign the back of the ticket.
• Keep it in a safe and secure place.
• Consult with a financial and/or legal professional.
• Call the Lottery’s Nashville office before coming to claim the prize.
Also in Tennessee, there was one $2 million winner, one $100,000 winner and 17 $50,000 winners. No information is known about the Tennessee winners until the prize is claimed.
