Hunter Hageman
Tony Ingle, head basketball coach at defending NAIA National Champions Dalton State, announced Thursday that he has hired Hunter Hageman, 24, as an assistant.
“He will be a great addition to our program,” said Ingle. Hageman comes to the Roadrunners from the National Association of Basketball Coaches office in Kansas City, MO. He is a 2014 graduate of the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS.
“It’s always difficult to hire the right person at the right time,” said Ingle.
This hire has been even more difficult because Hunter is replacing Tony Ingle Jr, who has done an outstanding job for me throughout the years and who has been on my staff to help win two national championships.”
Tony Jr. was not allowed to continue as a paid assistant because of a Georgia Board of Regents nepotism policy. He is now an assistant coach at Coahulla Creek High School in Varnell, GA.
“I have interviewed ten candidates for this position,” said Ingle. “Hunter comes highly recommended from Reggie Minton, the Executive Director of the NABC, and also from Lennie Acuff, my former assistant coach and now the head coach at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Acuff is a member of the NABC Board.
Hageman is a native of Kingman, KS. He played basketball for two years at Friends University in Wichita before earning his degree in Sports Management with a minor in Business at KU. “I have been around basketball all of my life,” said Hageman, who had heard about the Dalton State opening from Acuff. “It’s a great opportunity and I am happy to call Dalton home,” he added.
