A Chattanooga police officer responding to a bank robbery in East Brainerd was involved in a traffic crash at an intersection.
Around 9:20 a.m.. a bank robbery occurred near the 1500 block of Gunbarrel Road at the Trust Federal Credit Union. Responding units included Officer George Forbes. While responding to the call Officer Forbes was injured in the crash.
· Officer Forbes was traveling east on East Brainerd Road approaching the Gunbarrel intersection.
As Officer Forbes approached the intersection he observed the light and observed a truck stopped at the green light yielding to emergency traffic.
The witness in that truck stated he had a green light and observed the officer coming so he stopped to yield to emergency traffic.
Officer Forbes began to enter the intersection.
A driver of a Range Rover stated she observed the green light and saw the truck in front of her stop - she stated that she thought the truck stopped to try and get in a different lane.
The Range Rover then went around the stopped truck and entered the intersection.
The driver of the Range Rover stated they did not see the officer approaching.
The Range Rover and the patrol vehicle impacted in the westbound traffic lane of East Brainerd Road.
Officer Forbes was transported to a local hospital for observation.
Officer Forbes reportedly lost consciousness briefly following the wreck.
The driver of the Range Rover did not suffer any injuries.
The investigation into the bank robbery is being led by the FBI.
