Sylvester Kirkwood appears in court
A judge has raised the bond from $15,000 to $75,000 for a man charged with pointing a gun at a homeowner who had pinned his vehicle in.
Sylvester Kirkwood appeared before Collegedale Judge Kevin Wilson, who was sitting in for one of the General Sessions Court judges.
Kenneth Davis said he got a call that his home was being burglarized on Spinmaker Cove on Sept. 14. He said he arrived home to find his door open and a car in his driveway. He pulled in behind the vehicle.
The homeowner said two men came out of the residence with one carrying a green tote bag. They quickly got into the vehicle. The driver, who was identified as Kirkwood, tried to back his way out but was blocked. He then got out with the gun before running off with the other man.
Detective Mickey Rountree said Kirkwood was found at another residence at nearby Hunter Road.
He said Kirkwood eventually admitted taking part in the burglary, saying he and the other man needed money to pay rent.
The detective was asked if he knew the identity of the other man, and he said he did.
The homeowner said his camera was left in the car the burglars abandoned.
Prosecutor Carl Huskins said Kirkwood, 25, has a somewhat lengthy record and he could not understand why his bond was set at $15,000 in the first place.
