A six-year-old girl, who was not properly restrained, is in critical condition after a head-on collision on Highway 58 early Thursday morning.
Her mother and grandmother were also injured.
The crash occurred around 7:24 a.m. at 5800 Highway 58 near the intersections of Congress Road and Holder Road. The location is near Linda's Produce.
Based on physical evidence and other information gained on scene investigators determined that a 1989 Ford Thunderbird driven by Annette Chenkus and occupied by her 25-year-old daughter, Kimberly Furman, and the granddaughter pulled from Congress Road.
The Ford Thunderbird was in the center turn lane of Highway 58 going south and was stopped waiting to merge with other southbound traffic.
A 1999 Ford F150 was traveling north on Highway 58, driven by Michael Watkins, and for an unknown reason the F150 drifted out of his lane of travel and entered the center turn lane where the Thunderbird was stopped waiting to merge.
The F150 struck the Thunderbird pushing it backwards. Mr. Watkins was properly restrained and suffered minor injuries.
No occupant in the Thunderbird was properly restrained.
Lifeforce was called and transported the driver of the Thunderbird for serious injuries.
The girl suffered serious injuries.
Her mother and Ms. Chenkus are listed in stable condition.
