Work Underway On Widening Shepherd Road Bridge Over Highway 153

  • Monday, August 17, 2015

Work is underway widening the Shepherd Road Bridge over Highway 153 from two lanes to four lanes.

Chattanooga Airport officials said they have been in close contact with TDOT on the project and have been told that the bridge will remain open during the project.

Terry Hart, Airport president, said, "They will do one side, then flip to the other."

It is set to be completed by October 2016.

The widened bridge will include sidewalks leading to the Shepherd Community Center.

Chattanooga Coca-Cola Bottling is building a large new distribution center nearby.

There will be signal lights installed after the new highway ramps are completed.

Officials noted that with the new Coca-Cola project and with rising traffic at the nearby airport, that traffic has become heavier at the bridge.
