A Hamilton County man found with a meth lab in his home has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.

Scotty Lamar Higgins, 32, appeared before Judge Sandy Mattice.

The sheriff's office carried out a search of the Higgins residence last Oct. 2 while investigating stolen tools.

They found significant quantities of equipment, chemicals, products and material used to produce meth inside and outside of the house.

They also found drug paraphernalia.

Detectives searched a second home nearby and found Higgins hiding in the attic.

A deputy who climbed into the attic to search for Higgins suffered burns when he unwittingly grabbed an improvised gas generator that was leaking. It was in an area where the insulation had been recently disturbed.
