Mayor Issues Directive Barring Protestors From Memorial Services For Slain Military Personnel

  • Thursday, July 23, 2015

Mayor Andy Berke on Thursday morning issued a Mayoral Directive to the Chattanooga Police Department, directing all city of Chattanooga law enforcement personnel to treat the Lee Highway and Amnicola Highway Memorial Sites as protected memorial services.

City officials said the orders "shields the funeral services, funeral processions, and both memorial sites from any protests."

Two of the five military personnel killed by a shooter in Chattanooga last Thursday morning will be buried at the National Cemetery.

Services with full military honors are planned for Marine Sgt.

David Wyatt as well as Randall Smith, of the U.S. Navy.

The rites for Sgt. Wyatt will be Friday.
