The head of the recruiting center on Lee Highway that was shot up on Thursday morning told reporters on Tuesday that the message to military recruiting stations across America is to "stand strong and continue the mission."

Sgt. 1st Class Robert Dodge, of the U.S.Army, who has four tours in Iraq, said in regard to returning to work, "We are soldiers. This is what we do. You take a moment. You take a knee, and then you do what you need to do."

Sgt. Dodge, who had only been at the Lee Highway officer for a little over a month when the shooting broke out, did not comment on the issue of arming recruiters, saying that was not his decision.

He said that, because they are not armed, the staff had practiced active shooter drills and put that training into place on Thursday.

Four people where in the office, one person was injured in the fusillade of bullets through the glass front door of the center.

The shooter, who fired from the driver's seat of a convertible, proceeded to the Naval and Marine Support Center on Amnicola Highway and killed four Marines and a sailor there before he, himself, was killed by city police.
