A home in Dallas Bay was destroyed by fire after being struck by lightning Thursday evening.

Strong storms moved through the northern Hamilton County Thursday evening. A 911 call was made by a neighbor reporting a house fire at 2119 Port Royal Drive.

The Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded and reported heavy fire through the roof and entire back of the house. Due to the significant amount of fire, the Dallas Bay VFD requested a mutual aid response for additional manpower. The Sequoyah Volunteer Fire Department and Red Bank Fire Department responded.

Fire officials reported the neighbor saw lightning strike the chimney, and within minutes fire was showing on the roofline. The homeowner, Kelsey Jenkins, was not home at the time.

The house is a total loss and damages are estimated at $350,000. The homeowner was insured and will be staying with family.
