Bradley County authorities said a Chattanooga man was shining a green laser pointer at other vehicles on I-75.

Gary Dewayne Couey, 34, was charged after police were told that he was shining the laser at a front-seat passenger in a silver Honda.

A caller said the laser almost caused a wreck involving an 18-wheeler and another vehicle.

The vehicle was stopped on South Lee Highway.

Authorities said Couey admitted to shining the green laser at other vehicles on the freeway.

He was charged with felony reckless endangerment and was taken to the Bradley County Jail.

The vehicle was driven by 34-year-old Brandi Rapier, of Ooltewah. She was charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment.

Police kept the laser pointer as evidence.

Couey was arrested in April for theft over $1,000 and was out on bond pending an appearance Aug. 4 in General Sessions Court.
