Miss Scenic City Hannah Robison’s piano performance of "El Cumbanchero" was rewarded with the talent award at Thursday’s second round of preliminaries at the Miss Tennessee Pageant in Jackson.
The 21-year-old senior majoring in Chemistry at the University of Tennessee at Martin and Paris resident becomes a frontrunner for the title and the accompanying $18,000 scholarship which will be awarded Saturday evening as well as the second consecutive winner from the Scenic City Pageants franchise which sponsors the Scenic City, Chattanooga and Tennessee Valley titles. The outgoing Miss Tennessee Hayley Lewis was the Tennessee Valley representative when she won the state crown a year ago.
Miss Robison, who promotes the Campaign Against Pain: Arthritis Awareness since several of her relatives have been diagnosed with the disease, is competing at the state level for the second time. In 2013 as Miss Tennessee Valley she was the second runner-up.
The aspiring Organic Chemistry professor is also active in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) initiative and has presented STEM programs at Children’s Miracle Network hospitals statewide.
Six of the 36 contestants including Ms. Robison are representing and/or are from the Chattanooga area - Miss Chattanooga Stephanie McKain, Miss Dogwood Festival Rachel Holder of Birchwood, Miss East Tennessee Lexi White of Harrison, Miss Rocky Top MerylAnne Dexter from Signal Mountain and Miss Tennessee Valley Sydney Shadrix.
The final round of preliminaries will be held Friday night and the top 16 including the People’s Choice winner (http://wp.misstennessee.org/peopleschoice/) will compete for the crown on Saturday. The pageant is being webstreamed at www.eplustv6.com.
