A former city police officer who earlier pleaded guilty to aggravated statutory rape has now been arrested for aggravated robbery.

Chad E. Bradley also was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and public intoxication.

Police said the incident on Saturday was first called in by Bradley. He said he was at 4205 Green Shanty Road with friends from a motorcycle club when he was assaulted. He said he was attacked by two men because he disrespected one of their wives.

Bradley said he grabbed his things and left. He said the men got on their motorcycles and were coming after him. He said he hid in bushes at the 4300 block of Green Shanty Road.

An investigator went to the address where the incident took place and spoke with Ronnie Byrd and Russell Gilmore as well as Vickie Byrd. Gilmore said he had just got through stitching his thumb up. He displayed his left thumb with a fresh bandage around it.

Gilmore said Bradley was drinking and made a threatening move toward him. He said he hit Bradley in the face.

Gilmore said Bradley went to lie down, but returned later with a knife and tried to assault Vickie Byrd. Gilmore said he stepped between them and was cut on the thumb. All three said Bradley then left with his belongings.

Ms. Byrd said Bradley was assaulted by her husband and Gilmore after making some remarks about her and arguing with her husband. She said when Bradley came toward her with the knife, he took her cell phone. Police said Bradley used that phone to call police.

On the way to jail, police said Bradley became belligerent and outraged. He said he was a nine-year veteran of the Chattanooga Police Department and was being falsely charged.

He said Bradley told him, "Take your badge off and I will beat your (expletive) a--."

The officer said Bradley threatened him and his family by saying, "Don't worry, I'll find you and your family."

Bradley in May 2011 was given a three-year suspended sentence in Hamilton County Criminal Court on the statutory rape.

Bradley earlier pleaded guilty to statutory rape in Meigs County and got a two-year sentence there. He served 30 days in jail in Meigs County. The cases involved sex with the same 17-year-old girl.

Prosecutor Lance Pope at the time said Bradley would be a registered sex offender and have to undergo sex offender counseling.
