Howard Band Director Suspended Without Pay For "Insubordination"

  • Friday, May 8, 2015

County school officials said the band director at Howard High School, Dexter Bell, was suspended without pay for alleged insubordination.

Stacy Stewart stated that he "was suspended without pay (per the law) pending investigation into whether or not he was insubordinate as defined in TCA: 49-5-501."

Some students and parents protested after the band director was escorted off campus.

The school principal, Zac Brown, canceled the band's planned participation in the Armed Forces Day parade, saying there was not an assistant band director.
