Dustin Cawood
Lee Assistant Professor of Communication Dustin Cawood presented at an event for local filmmakers known as “The Backlot: A Place for Film.” The event took place at the Heritage House Arts and Civic Center in downtown Chattanooga.
Mr. Cawood spoke about his 10 years in the motion picture industry as a sound designer and editor, and about the new Bachelor of Arts (BA) program at Lee in Digital Media Studies and Cinema.
Mr. Cawood won a Golden Reel award for his work on “Wall-E” in 2009. He has also been nominated for six other Golden Reel awards for his work as a sound effect editor. In 2014, Mr. Cawood won a Hollywood Post Alliance Award for his work on Pixar Animation Studios’ “Toy Story OF TERROR!”
Prior to joining Lee’s Department of Communication Arts in fall 2013, Mr. Cawood worked in the film and television industry at Skywalker Sound and Pixar Animation Studios. His credits as sound effect editor/designer include such productions as “Lincoln,” “Star Trek,” “Star Trek: Into Darkness,” and “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted.” He also served as sound designer on “Chasing Ice.”
Mr. Cawood is a native of Cleveland. He earned his master of fine arts from Florida State University and his bachelor of arts from UTC.
The Backlot is an open house for all film groups and anyone interested in any aspect of film and video. On the third Monday of every month, The Backlot hosts an event for groups to meet and network with each other as well as have casting calls, script readings, screenings, professional speakers, and workshop. This event also provides opportunities for individual and student film makers.
